The Educational Innovation and Technology Hub’s (EdITH) Instructional Design Unit (IDU) recently concluded four insightful workshops to equip its interns with the proper knowledge to uphold the unit's standards for its Project Video Courseware and other commitments that foster innovation in education.

Held throughout September, with online and face-to-face options, the workshops offered topics pertinent to the unit's progress, such as poster, scriptwriting, efficiency, and trailer making. It also emphasized the collaborative environment in the IDU as both associates and interns shared tips, tricks, and other information on specific processes.

About the IDU

EdITH is a collaborative department composed of cross-functional units from multiple FEU schools directly reporting to the Executive Director of the FEU Institute of Technology. These units work together as stewards for developing, implementing, and managing academic technology tools and services that can support the many teaching and learning processes, in-person or remote.

One of its units is the Instructional Design Unit, which pioneers educational content primarily focusing on Project Video Courseware. Through analysis, design, development, and evaluation, they create engaging, accessible learning experiences, ensuring alignment with educational goals. By integrating multimedia and interactive elements, they elevate the learning experience, as exemplified by their innovative video-based modules.

Its members include Video Production Specialists Noreen Jem Caasi, Joshua Rogelyn Caparas, Fatima Taymur Vargas, and Content Production Specialist Patricia Taculao-Deligero. They spearheaded and conducted the respective workshops according to their specializations.

Learning How to Make Posters

The first workshop, which was held online on September 13, was for poster making. Led by Caasi and Junior Multimedia Designer Philip Cantre, it focused on making enticing posters to draw attention to the modules available on M-Flix.

Some pointers Caasi and Cantre made were identifying what the respective courses discussed so the interns could aptly implement its ideas into their designs and unleash their creativity to demonstrate their skills.

From Script to Screen

By September 18, Taculao-Deligero, with her Junior Content Writer Ross Alfred Miguel Tayag, held another online workshop, but this time for scriptwriting. The scripts set the tone for the VCW modules, so it’s relevant to have a clear vision of where it should go to develop a linear trajectory that students find engaging and easy to understand.

While Taculao-Deligero gave tips on how to find inspiration that could spark a creative flow, Tayag talked about how using AI tools can help reach a similar goal and how these respective tools can review completed works for grammar or tone inconsistencies.

Back-To-Back Workshops: Promoting Efficiency

On September 27, the IDU held back-to-back hybrid workshops throughout the day. First was the Efficiency Workshop led by Caparas and Junior Multimedia Designer Elmon Jhon Abordo. Editing videos and other media continuously can be taxing, so this workshop focused on helping the interns find the proper workflow to suit their respective styles and needs.

Caparas and Abordo shared their insights on streamlining the editing process while staying motivated to finish the task and be creative throughout.

Back-To-Back Workshops: The Trailer-Making Process

For the second workshop, held on the afternoon of September 27, Vargas and Junior Content Writer Jan Angelo Herrera tackled the ins and outs of producing trailers for M-Flix courses according to EdITH’s standards.

As the people in charge of making the trailers for recently uploaded M-Flix courses, Vargas and Herrera discussed how to make teasers that encompass the concept behind every course at first glance, giving students a glimpse of what they can learn from the VCW. One of the topics the speakers focused on was the technicalities and dimensions of a teaser to make it effective and high-quality.

Through these workshops, the IDU empowers its interns to broaden their horizons about the diverse tasks within the unit and equip them with the proper tools they can leverage for future endeavors in their respective fields.
