In a groundbreaking step toward innovation, the Instructional Design Unit of the Educational Innovation and Technology Hub (EdITH) held its first Viewing Workshop last March 13, 2024, Wednesday. The activity, which involved Junior Multimedia Designers, who are accomplishing their internship program with EdITH and the department’s video production specialists (VPS), among the other production team members, fostered a collaborative environment where each individual’s progress and suggestions were respected and validated.
The activity, a series of workshops held throughout March, aims to encourage collaboration between the involved teams, create an encouraging environment to allow creative growth and set a standard on the quality of the Video Courseware content.
During the workshop’s first day, Junior Multimedia Designer Patricia Velasco and VPS Associate Fatima Taymur H. Vargas presented their chosen videos, which didn’t exceed ten minutes each. Some highlights of their presentations included their design inspirations, workflow scheduling, and particular tips and tricks to help the Junior Multimedia Designers make their production process more efficient.
Moreover, the viewing workshop allowed the Junior Multimedia Designers to raise their concerns about any challenges they encountered during production. It shed some light on how technical difficulties, like a lack of proper equipment and script discrepancies, can hinder their creative process.
On the other hand, the Junior Multimedia Designers had the opportunity to share their growth in their craft. Some of their developments include switching from maximalism to minimalism, finding their creative voice by adding new elements to the Video Courseware content and incorporating color coordination, textures, and emphasis to ensure students can stay focused on the video and retain information more effectively.
The following presentations were on March 19, 2024, Tuesday, with VPS Joshua Rogelyn D. Caparas and Junior Multimedia Designer Cassie Omaoeng, and on March 20, 2024, Wednesday, with Junior Multimedia Designers Gerard Nico Tapang and John David Arcelo.
The Viewing Workshop concluded on March 26, 2024, Tuesday, with VPS Noreen Jem B. Caasi and Junior Multimedia Designers Yelle Villena and Zandy Tesaluna as the presenters.
In each workshop presentation, the Junior Multimedia Designers, VPS Associates, and other Instructional Design Unit members shared their insights and comments with the presenters. While most of the feedback was positive and encouraging, some were also perceptive, as it provided the Junior Multimedia Designers with new ideas, like maximizing the opacity or transparency of an element, to make their output stand out and ensure that audiences will receive it well–both content-wise and visually.
VPS Associates all noted the improvement of the Junior Multimedia Designers under their supervision. It shows that with the proper guidance and mentorship, partnered with their personal style, they can achieve greater heights and diversify their skills and perspectives.
Moreover, having Junior Multimedia Designers join the production of Video Courseware content enables them to explore new design approaches, even those they’re not familiar with, and apply them to their output as a sign of their growth as creative individuals.
The Junior Multimedia Designers and VPS Associates work closely together to produce content for the Video Courseware Project, which supplies FEU students with video lessons for their various courses, which they can watch on their own time and pace.
