The University of the Philippines Open University (UPOU) welcomed officials from the Far Eastern University (FEU) Institute of Technology Manila to its headquarters on February 13, 2025, for a benchmarking activity.

The FEU Institute of Technology delegation, headed by Executive Director Rossana Adao, included Dr. Manuel B. Garcia, Director of the Educational Innovation and Technology Hub, along with other officials who sought to gain insights into UPOU's established open and distance learning (ODL) practices.

Facilitated by key UPOU personnel, including Dr. Aurora Lacaste, Assistant to the Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs, and Dr. Ricardo Bagarinao, Director of the Center for Open and Digital Teaching and Learning (CODTL), the session proved to be a valuable exchange of knowledge. Discussions spanned a wide range of crucial ODL aspects, from course design and delivery to student support services and faculty training. The teams delved into the intricacies of UPOU's learning management system (LMS), assessment strategies, and methods for fostering student engagement in a virtual environment.

Beyond the core academic functions, the benchmarking activity also explored UPOU's approach to administrative efficiency, quality assurance, and accessibility in online education. It also highlighted emerging areas such as innovation and technology integration, community engagement, research initiatives, global reach, and strategic partnerships.

The open dialogue allowed FEU Institute of Technology representatives to learn from UPOU's experience and best practices in navigating the dynamic landscape of ODL. This collaborative effort underscores the commitment of both institutions to advancing quality education, aligning with Sustainable Development Goals 4 (Quality Education) and 17 (Partnerships for the Goals). The exchange is expected to contribute significantly to developing and enhancing ODL programs in the Philippines.
