Certifications

Clark Raven Maranan and Clievenze Karl Quejado of the Education Innovation and Technology Hub (EdITH) successfully passed the Computer Graphics Certification exam by the Game Developers Association of the Philippines (GDAP) as a 3D artist and game developer, respectively.

Both graduated with Bachelor of Science degrees in Information Technology with Specialization in Animation and Game Development from FEU Institute of Technology. Being certified in computer graphics signifies a valuable step toward career advancement while highlighting their dedication and commitment to their fields. They took the exam during the latter part of 2023.

The Computer Graphics Certification Exam was a localized English version of the CG Creator Certification by the CG Arts Society of Japan conducted by the GDAP. Creators in animation, game and web development, entertainment, and other related industries are encouraged to check their knowledge and comprehension of computer graphics, from 2D graphics and design to 3D modeling and animation to editing, compositing, and workflows to gauge their current level. GDAP member studios and partners recognize the certification.

Testing Computer Graphics Technology

With assistance from Canon Marketing Japan and IT firms, the CG Arts Society of Japan established the CG Creator credential in 1991 as a digital arts credential. The Japanese Ministry of Education certified it, and major animation, gaming, and visual effects studios in Japan acknowledged it.

The CG Arts Society of Japan is a public interest-incorporated foundation. The CG-Arts Society administers five tests, the CG Creator Certification Exam being one of them. Each test has two levels: Basic and Expert.

It is a benchmark for digital artists hoping to work at Japanese CG animation studios. The Certification Exam tests proficiency with computer graphics technology, knowledge of the theories underlying computer graphics, and ability to use graphics software efficiently under schedule, budget, and design constraints.

Benefits of the Certificate

According to the CG Arts Society of Japan, the certification has several benefits. Among them is being a consistent baseline for digital arts learners to gauge if they are reaching the minimum know-how and competitiveness to pass the exam. On the other hand, it also levels out the playing field by enabling the industry to identify schools that produce good graduates while giving lesser-known institutions to be recognized for their teaching quality.

On the other hand, the certificate also provides students with a bar to meet for global competitiveness. Most importantly, it opens international doors because foreign companies who recognize the certification will welcome more collaborations between local artists and studios. The GDAP CG Creator certification will assure them that the artists can reach the level set by the certification exam.

Maranan and Quejado are part of the creative team behind MILES Virtual World, a metaverse-inspired digital environment where students and teachers can interact in a three-dimensional, avatar-driven world to bridge the gap between traditional educational methods and the evolving needs of the digital generation. The platform fosters an engaging environment for learning and collaboration while championing innovation through constant updates that showcase the artist and developer’s mastery of their crafts.
